MEET A MISF19 ARTIST

KavishaboiteHopper02.jpg

Kavisha Mazzella AM is best known as a singer, songwriter, choir leader and folklorist. She has released seven albums that draw on the rich experiences of her migrant background to create songs that resonate with everyone. She specialises in stories of journeys taken, homelands left behind and the sorrow, joy and risk involved.

Her passion for social justice saw Kavisha awarded an Order of Australia in 2011 for her work telling the stories of refugee and migrant communities, and her music earned her an ARIA for best world music album in 1998.

She has lead many choirs including the vivacious Italian Women’s Choir La Voce Della Luna (1996-2013). She has been commissioned to write choral works for significant events such as

Tunc Justus for the 150th Anniversary of the Eureka Stockade rebellion and the Women's Anthem Love and Justice, which was a celebration of 100 years of Women’s Suffrage by the Victorian Women’s Trust in 2008. Click here to view YouTube video.

Proceeds from the Melbourne International Singers Festival support Play It Forward, providing a unique range of tailored inclusive arts programs, events and projects for all Australians.
